IntelliWebSearch On-Line Training Sessions

How does it work?
The webinars are delivered
live in English via a web conferencing system with built-in VoIP. In other words, they are interactive like real seminars. Besides speakers/headphones, attendees should ideally have a microphone so that they can ask questions. Alternatively, it is also possible to phone in (you pay for the call) or type your questions into a chat window. Due to their interactive nature, enrolment is limited to a maximum of ten participants per session. Obviously a broadband Internet connection (cost not included in the price of the webinar) is essential for reasonable reception.

When are they? What time are they?
You can either join an existing training session or request one at a time that suits you. See below for details of the next sessions. If you do not want to request a session and prefer to wait until others propose dates and times, you might like to subscribe to the training announcement list, or follow IntelliWebSearch Training Events and News on Twitter, FriendFeed or RSS Feed.

Do I get an attendance certificate?

An attendance certificate is issued after the event and may score you points in the continuing professional development programmes run by various translators' associations.

Do I get training notes?
Attendees will receive some summary notes exclusively for their personal use after logging into the session.

Who is the trainer?
Michael Farrell is a freelance translator, an ATRIL Certified Training Partner and the author of A Tinkerer's Guide to Structured Query Language in Déjà Vu X. He has held training courses and seminars in Italy for schools, translation agencies, professional associations and individual professional translators on the use of translation memory systems and Web search techniques since 2000.

How do I enrol?
If you want to enrol in an existing session, click one of the ENROL NOW links below according to the session that interests you ("IntelliWebSearching - Optimal Internet Search Techniques for Translators" or "IntelliWebSearch Tweaking - Customizing Searches and Settings") after you have made sure you know exactly what time the session starts in your time zone (see below).
If you want to propose the date/time, click one of the CHOOSE TIME links below according to the session that interests you. Note that there must be at least two attendees (except for the one-to-one tutoring). So, if no one else enrols, you will not be asked to pay and the session will not  take place.
Payments are handled by Avangate BV (NL). Avangate is a reseller so you will receive a receipt/invoice from them, not from me. After payment you will receive an order confirmation message from Avangate Customer Service containing a link to a fully functional copy of the product. The fully functional copy of the product is a file containing essential instructions on how and where to log in. Please type the first and last names of attendees carefully when ordering. Any unknown names will be considered intruders and not allowed to attend.

Personal data and privacy
Avangate provides me with your personal data excluding credit card, bank, PayPal or other payment-means-related data. I process the data I receive in accordance with my privacy policy. Avangate processes your data in accordance with its own privacy policy. Note that the name, surname and email address you use to log into the on-line training session are visible to the other attendees
.

Do you organize on-line training sessions on other subjects?
The sessions below are also available in Italian. In addition, as an ATRIL Certified Training Partner, I hold webinars on Déjà Vu X in English and Italian.

Syllabus
The on-line training session consists of three parts:
  1. Basic search engine concepts
  2. What is IntelliWebSearch?
  3. Specific search techniques
The first part deals with basic search engine features and functions such as the default operator, phrase search, truncation, stop words, Boolean operators, fields, sorting, advanced search options and keywords. It is probably mainly revision for most attendees, but it is essential that everyone is familiar with the basic concepts before continuing.
The second part explains what IntelliWebSearch does and how it can be used to speed up and simplify terminology searches in the Internet.
The third part looks at the typical problems translators and interpreters have to face during their working day, such as searching for useful on-line dictionaries (mono/bilingual), multilingual sites (
parallel texts), single terms, abbreviations/acronyms, quotations/titles and idioms/boilerplate, and explains how IntelliWebSearch can be used to save standard settings and perform appropriate searches literally at the press of a button (keyboard shortcut).
What doesn't the seminar cover?
Anything not specifically mentioned in the syllabus, including adding settings manually, adding settings for local dictionaries and tweaking program settings. These are covered in "IntelliWebSearch Tweaking - Customizing Searches and Settings" (see below).
How much does it cost?
Full price is €70.00 for a 2 hour session, but If you enrol early (by 1 July) there is a 10% discount. VAT may be applicable in some EU countries. Special non-cumulative discounts are available for translators' associations, agencies and group buyers: write to me for more information. The length of the session is indicative, since it also depends on the number of questions attendees ask.
