Localization
Important note: if
you
decide you would like to localize IntelliWebSearch, please let me
know before you
start
to make sure no one is already working on your
language. By volunteering, you undertake to complete the job
free
of charge within 30 days of writing to me, otherwise I will assume you
have changed your mind and may assign the task to another volunteer.
Interface
If you like using IntelliWebSearch and you feel you would like to
contribute in some way, perhaps you might like to localize the
IntelliWebSearch interface into your language (about 700 words).
All you have to do is translate all the messages in the interface.xx.ini and
wizard.gb.ini files. The interface files
are standard Windows INI
files which can be opened and edited in Notepad or your favourite CAT
tool. Due to an AutoHotkey technical limitation, the INI files are
encoded in Windows 1252 (ANSI), which may make localization
into certain languages impossible.
You can find the contents of the original British English program
interface file here and wizard interface file here,
or in the IntelliWebSearch
installation folder (Program
Files\IntelliWebSearch by default).
Instructions:
- Translate
all the text excluding
the part to the left of
the equals signs or anything written in square brackets, trying to
keep the length similar.
- Enter your name and
website/email address in message n. 47 (interface.xx.ini) so
that they appear at the bottom of the About window.
- Pay
attention to the &
symbol in the messages: the letter after the &
is a shortcut key. For example, if you press Alt+Q on the Search window
you toggle quotes. This is a consequence of message n. 7
(&Quotes?).
- Messages 112
(&A), 113
(&R) and 114 (&G) (interface.xx.ini) create shortcuts
to the Add
to/Remove from... and Rename... dropdown
boxes on the Archive
window
and Groups
dropdown box on the Search
window (try Alt+A, Alt+R and
Alt+G on the corresponding windows and see what happens). You should translate them
accordingly.
- Before
sending me the files, try them out by replacing interface.gb.ini
and wizard.gb.ini in the IntelliWebSearch
installation folder with your localized
version, paying particular attention to any shortcut conflicts. In
other words you must make sure that no two letters after & symbols
in messages appearing on the same window are the same (note that Alt+Z is reserved on
the Search
window).
This is
probably the most fiddly bit.
Note: every time you
make a change to the interface files you have to switch the
language to a different one of your choice (See Settings Window)
and then switch back again to see the changes you
have made.
Once done, please send everything to me together with the name of your
language in your language, e.g. Français, Deutsch, Italiano,
etc.
Home Page
If you would like to make a further contribution, you might like to
localize the website home page (about 246 words).
Instructions:
- Let me
know before you
start to make sure no one is already working on your
language.
- Download the
zipped home page from here.
- Localize
using a CAT tool (or similar) that does not alter the HTML tags.
- Don't forget
to add your name (and a web or email link if you like) at the bottom.
- You will
also find a special search.ini
file (help.search.ini)
zipped together with the home page. It can
be opened and edited in Notepad or your favourite CAT
tool. Please localize it (translate all the text excluding the part to
the left of the equals signs or anything written in square brackets)
and send it back to me so that I can use it to create the graphics
(screenshots) on the home page.
- Send
everything to me.
Help
Pages
If you would like to make an even greater contribution, you
might like
to localize the help pages too (about 6410 words).
Instructions:
- Let me
know before you
start to make sure no one is already working on your
language.
- Download the
zipped help pages from here.
- Localize
using a CAT tool (or similar) that does not alter the HTML tags.
- Note that
some of the files do
not contain translatable text, but are needed to set up the frames
(archive.html, edit.html, help.html, search.html and settings.html).
- Don't forget
to add your name (and a web or email link if you like) at the bottom of
each page.
- You will also find
a special search.ini
file (help.search.ini)
zipped together with the help pages. It is the same file as the one
zipped together with the home page (see above). It can
be opened and edited in Notepad or your favourite CAT
tool. Please localize it if you have not already done so (translate all
the text excluding the part to the left of the equals signs or anything
written in square brackets), and send it back to me so that I can use
it to create the screenshots on the help pages.
- Send
everything to me.
Thank you in advance for
your help.
